Catherine Thimmeah. Girls Think of Everything. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt: New York, 2000 , Pages: 53, Reading Level: 6th grade and up, Lexile: 960L, Ages: 12 and up, Genre: Biography

In kitchens and living rooms, in garages and labs and basements, women and girls have invented ingenious inventions that have made our lives simpler and better. Their creations are some of the most enduring like the windshield wiper and best loved the chocolate chip cookie. What inspired these women, and just how did they turn their ideas into realities? I would use this within my classroom to not only build the girls confidence, but to show guys and girls that they can do anything that they put their mind to. I would be good to have my students create their own inventions and write a paragraph about it and draw an elaborate picture of their inventions and why they made this.

:) :)    This book is okay, you might like this one.

This book doesn't have strong vocabulary for the student's proper age. Has no illustrations and students aren't able to make a strong connection within the book. This book is missing either a beginning, middle, or end. And teachers can't incorporate a strong lesson from the book.

  1. This book looks so interesting. I think boys and girls would enjoy reading this book. I learned that girls tend to not feel that they are great in science, and the public always' showcases male scientists. So this book would be great to integrate in science to show girls that they can invent things too. I like your education application of having students write down their inventions, tell about them, and then draw a picture of their inventions.
